‘Community Notification’ meeting planned for Oct. 24

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

Levasseur will be released to Forest County Oct. 25.

A convicted sex offender will be released into Forest County Oct. 25. Jeffrey A. Levasseur, 52, will be living at 8901 Sand Lake Road in Crandon. The Forest County Sheriff’s Office will hold a community notification meeting Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in the county board room at the Forest County Courthouse.

Levasseur was convicted in Minnesota in 1992 of second degree criminal sexual conduct for sexually assaulting a seven-year old acquaintance and in Forest County in 1999 of first degree sexual assault of a child involving a six-year old male acquaintance and an 11-year old acquaintance. In 2008 Levasseur was committed under the Sexually Violent Persons Law. A hearing earlier this month was held and the court approved a supervised released plan.

According to the Forest County press release, “this notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public.”

Levasseur will be placed on intensive supervision, which includes GPS monitoring, and will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life. The sex offender registry can be reached by visiting widocoffenders.org.
