The Rhinelander Police Department has identified the victim of a house fire Friday night as Jeffery “JJ” Becker, age 35. According to the police, the cause of the fire appears to be related to an unattended pan that overheated on the stove.

According to the obituary from Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander, Becker has lived in Rhinelander since 2015, and was a student at Nicolet College, studying welding and IT. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and their wives, nieces and nephews.

Rhinelander fire and police departments were dispatched to 320 Rose Street approximately 7:25 p.m. Sept. 21. During fire operations inside the residence, firefighters discovered Becker, who was unresponsive. Attempts to revive him failed and Becker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rhinelander fire and police departments, the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Fire Marshall’s Office are continuing the investigation.
