Rhinelander girls GNC tennis champs

The Great Northern Conference meet was held Saturday at Lakeland High School tennis courts. The Hodags held a four-point lead going into the meet and wanted to retake the conference title lost to Antigo a year ago.
The No. 2 singles match was the final match of the night, and it pitted Rhinelander’s Emma Roberts against Antigo’s Ellie Kelly for the flight championship and the winner would decide which team would be conference champion.
Kelly took the first set and Roberts came back and won the second set forcing a third set “super tie breaker,” which is a set to 10 points that must be won by two points. Roberts was down 1-5 early in the set and slowly worked her way back to tie it at 8. She then won the next two points to take the championship at No. 2 singles and earned the Hodags the conference championship once again.
