Karaoke for Hospice contestants wanted
Ascension at Home will be hosting “Karaoke for Hospice” Friday, Oct.26, at the Quality Inn of Rhinelander. The karaoke competition will be in the style of reality television singing competitions while raising funds and awareness to support hospice care. All proceeds from this event will support patients and families served by Ascension at Home in Rhinelander and the surrounding communities.
Audience members decide the winner of a $500 cash prize. Contestants are welcome to invite family and friends. There will be raffles and a cash bar during the event. Not so Scary Halloween Trail Oct. 26
The YMCA of the Northwoods’ annual Not so Scary trick-or-treat event takes place Friday, Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m. on the Stoney Pines Trail behind the Y. The trail consists of a three-quarter mile crushed granite path that winds through the woods along which community groups and businesses decorate sites and hand out goodies. Families are encouraged to stay for refreshments and chili indoors. Anyone wishing to donate candy or small child-friendly items to hand out, or would like to volunteer, contact Laurie Bielen at the Y, 715-362-9622, ext. 114.
‘Fun with Liquid Paint Pouring’ class
The School District of Rhinelander Community Education Program is offering a new one-evening class this fall. Local author and artist Tom Barnett will lead the group in a fun and messy night of liquid paint pouring. Learn the steps to create fun and unique abstract paintings. The class meets Wed., Sept. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in the Rhinelander High School art room, 134. Materials will be supplied. Wear old clothes or an apron. Course cost is $20.

Dementia presentation
A three-hour program, “Meeting Dementia,” will be hosted by St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Rhinelander Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Deacon Mary Raysa and Dr. Jimmy James will present the program through an organization called Healing Moments. The program is for anyone who has interaction with individuals with dementia, whether as a family caregiver or in other, more casual settings. Fashion show fundraiser
The Pelican Lake Women’s Civic Club is hosting its annual fashion show fundraiser and luncheon at Holiday Acres, Thursday, Oct. 4 at noon. There will be a silent auction, raffles and door prizes.
