STAR JOURNAL REPORT

It’s time to register for fall and early winter courses offered by the School District of Rhinelander Community Education program. Classes run the gamut of interests, including fitness, arts and crafts, garden and floral, health and wellbeing and many others. Visit the school district’s community page to view the 2018 fall and winter class guide. Online registration is encouraged.

Dog obedience classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 19 as part of the school district’s community education program. Carol Lofquist from TLC Dog Training is the instructor. “K9 Manners” helps puppy and adult dog owners teach proper manners, including come, stay, down, no jumping, how to socialize with other dogs and people and walking on a leash. The classes run Wednesdays 6-7 p.m. at Pelican Elementary School.

“Advanced Dog Obedience” is the follow up course that focuses on reinforcement techniques, such as hand signals and motion exercise. Dogs must have completed a basic obedience class to enroll. Classes take place Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Pelican Elementary School.

“Zumba with Val” also begins September 19 and will take place 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the James Williams Middle School gym through Oct. 24. Dance to great music with great people and burn calories without even realizing it. No experience is necessary and the class is open to all abilities.

“Total Body Training” combines kettleball, boxing, bodyweight and unconventional fitness to be a challenging and intense workout. Class will be led by Roni Garza, from 6:15-7 p.m. at the Aspirus Community Fitness Center at Rhinelander High School Tuesdays, Sept. 18-Oct. 23 or Wednesdays, Sept. 19-Oct. 24.

Get ready for fall and “Design an Autumn Planter,” Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Forth Floral in Rhinelander. Open to participants in grade nine through adult. Learn how to use mums, kale and accent plants to create a unique design. Class fee includes plants, pot and instruction.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Visit the community education section of the school district’s website for a registration form and for details on what to bring to class and the cost. www.rhinelander.512.wi.us/community/communityeducation.cfm. Call Mike Cheslock, program coordinator for more information, 715-365-9745.
