Oneida County election results from Aug. 14 primary

Just over one third of registered Oneida County voters went to the polls in Tuesday’s primary election. According to the unofficial results counted by the Oneida County Clerk’s office, 8,518 out of 23,017 possible voters cast ballots for a 37 percent turnout.

Republicans picked incumbent Grady Hartman for Oneida County Sheriff, who will run against Constitution Party candidate Tom Wakely. Hartman received 2,644 votes; county coroner Larry Mathein, 1,674 and 770 votes were tallied for Oneida County Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Gardner.

In the 7th Congressional District, Democrat Margaret Engebretson defeated Democrat Brian Ewert to take on incumbent Republican Sean Duffy.

Statewide about a third of registered voters cast ballots Tuesday. Statewide winners include Democrat Tony Evers, who will face incumbent Republican Governor Scott Walker in the November election. Evers gathered 41 percent of Democratic votes

On the Republican side, Leah Vukmir defeated Kevin Nicholson in a close 49 percent to 42 percent race, to win the right to face incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin for the U.S. Senate.
