One of Rhinelander’s fiercest competitions takes place one day a year, on the lawn of the District Library. Over its 30-year history, some 1,800 competitors and their young coaches have slithered head-to-head at the annual Library Worm Race.
The goal is to be the first worm to cross the finish line, or, in this case, a finish circle. In the end, only one worm and two “coaches” can claim bragging rights. Until next year.
2018 winners:
First place – Speedball, with coaches Daniel and Jeter Vander Galien.
Second place – Flash, with coaches Mason and Sawyer Hauser.
Third Place – Wonder Worman, with coaches Bailee Dillenberg and Haylie Stefonek.
The contest is limited to 60 two-person teams.
