Expera Specialty Solutions has announced that Ahlstrom-Munksjö has signed a definitive agreement to purchase all shares of Expera. Expera has mills in Rhinelander, Kaukauna and DePere.

According to their website, Ahlstrom-Munksjö is a “global leader in fiber-based materials, supplying innovating and sustainable solutions to customers worldwide,” headquartered in Helsinki Finland.

Expera’s CEO stated that this is a strategic and important step for the business.

“Since forming Expera in 2013 from the combination of Thilmany Papers, LLC and the specialty businesses of Wausau Paper, we have invested significantly in our people and operations, focusing on employee engagement manufacturing excellence and providing best-in-class product quality and support to our customers,” said Russ Wanke, adding that Expera remains “committed to our core strategic imperatives related to our people and our customers.”

Expera employs approximately 1,800 people in Wisconsin and is a manufacturer of specialty paper products for the industrial and technical, food packaging and processing and pressure-sensitive release liner sectors.

Completion of the transaction is expected to take place this year and is subject to customer closing conditions and approvals.
