STAR JOURNAL REPORT

A 21-year old Illinois man may face criminal charges after the vehicle he was driving crashed, killing his passenger early Sunday morning near Three Lakes.

According to the Three Lakes Police Department, Austin L. Lockwood, 23, of Illinois was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, Eric C. Labahn, 21, of Illinois was transported to the hospital for his injuries. The initial investigation indicated the vehicle left the road while traveling south on Military Road north of Allyn Road in the town of Three Lakes early June 10.

Charges of operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence and homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle have been forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney’s office, against Labahn.

OTHER FATALITIES OVER THE WEEKEND

A 27-year old Rhinelander man was killed June 8 in an ATV crash in the town of Pelican. According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Kody Carlson died when the ATV he was riding left North Lake George Road and struck a tree. First responders and law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. The accident remains under investigation.

A motorcycle crash in Lincoln County claimed the life of Merrill man June 9. The preliminary investigation indicated the motorcycle being operated by Philip A. Mattson, 51, was traveling with a group headed west on Co. Rd. D when his cycle left the road and struck a culvert, ejecting Mattson. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, bystanders and a deputy performed CPR but Mattson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln County coroner. Mattson was not wearing a helmet and authorities said he may have been drinking. This is the second fatal motor vehicle crash in Lincoln County this year.
