STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Nicolet College Foundation recently awarded its 2018 Friends and Partners Award to Superior Diesel of Rhinelander.

The area manufacturer received the honor for its long-standing partnership with Nicolet and its continuing efforts to support and promote higher education in the Northwoods.

“Superior Diesel has an impressive history with the investments they have made to students,” said Jeff Labs, Nicolet dean of Trade, Industry, and Apprenticeships, who nominated the company. “They continually go above and beyond in their support of education.”

One of Superior Diesel’s most recent efforts involved the company’s eight-week summer internship program. Working with Nicolet, the student interns will now receive Nicolet credits in Business Management when they complete the program. The internships consist of students working for two weeks in each of four different departments at Superior Diesel.

The company has also recently established the Superior Diesel Endowment Fund with the Nicolet College Foundation. The goal of the fund is to provide scholarships to Nicolet students for years to come.

Other activities include participating in the college’s annual Career Expo and the Heavy Metal Tour for middle school students. The company also works with Nicolet to offer the Certificate of Professional Development, which helps college students build leadership, communication, and job-seeking skills.

“Superior Diesel has always been there to support students and is a valuable partner for Nicolet,” said Nicolet Director of Enrollment Erika Warning, who also nominated the company.

Superior Diesel President Brian Wendt was presented the award at a recent Nicolet College Board of Trustees meeting.
