Sprecher watermelon craft soda will feature the Hodag on the label and is expected to be on store shelves this weekend.

STAR JOURNAL

Sprecher Brewing, a Glendale based company, has announced its newest seasonal craft soda flavor. But perhaps more importantly – at least to folks living in Rhinelander – the label will feature our beloved Hodag.

Watermelon soda was announced Monday as the company’s newest soda, which the company said features “extracts featuring Wisconsin honey” and other natural flavors. The press release stated that “Lore has it that the Hodag likes nothing better than real watermelons,” and warns that a Hodag may be stalking anyone who indulges in the soda.

Sprecher Brewing worked with Discover Wisconsin when choosing the creature for its label. Four characters were offered as choices on Discover Wisconsin’s social media site, and according to company officials, the Hodag won by a landslide.

Sprecher Strawberry is another new soda which along with watermelon is expected to be in stores by Memorial Day weekend.
