Obituary: Larry Geertgens

Laurel “Larry” Gerhard Geertgens, age 88 of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born on Feb. 10, 1930, to Gerhard and Anna (Oestreich) Geertgens. When the Korean Conflict began, Larry served four years in the Navy.

Larry is survived by his five daughters, Lisa (Steven) Tatro, Linda (William) Danfield, Beth Ann (Harold) Zellmer, Lori, and Miriam (James) Buttney; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; wife, Naomi; great-grandson, Uriah; nephew, Paul; sister, Florence; brother, Lloyd; and his second wife, Nadine.

Funeral services for Larry will be held Friday, April 13, at 11 a.m., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander, with visitation from 9 a.m., until just prior to the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Larry’s family requests that donations be made to the James Beck Cancer Center in care of Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation.
