Preliminary cause of death released for Forest County inmate

STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The male inmate discovered unresponsive in his cell early Wednesday morning by Forest County Sheriff’s Office has been identified by the county medical examiner as William J. Zastawniak, 43, of Wabeno.
In a press release issued Friday, Oneida/Forest County Medical Examiner Larry Mathein stated that preliminary results of an autopsy indicates Zastawniak died as a result of asphyxiation by hanging.
According to online court records, Zastawniak was facing felony charges of second degree sexual assault of a child dating back to last November in Forest County.
Mathein said a final determination of the cause of death will be made after toxicology reports and another testing results come in. The incident remains under investigation.
