STAR JOURNAL REPORT

Two Rhinelander High School gymnasts have qualified for state after finishing in the top five individually at Thursday’s WIAA Division 2 Sectional in Antigo.

RHS senior Stephanie Kuester placed third in the floor exercise (8.8), while junior Raven Sturtevant tied for fifth on the uneven bars (8.05). They will next compete March 3 in the state individual competition at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Kuester came within one place of being an all-around state qualifier after having the sixth-best combined score for the four individual events at 32.975 and also finished sixth on the balance beam (7.85). She added another top-10 finish by placing seventh on the uneven bars (7.975)

Sturtevant, who placed eighth in the all-around competition (32.4), had two more top-10 finishes by ending up seventh both on the balance beam (7.8) and in the floor exercise (8.55).

The Hodags came within one place of qualifying the entire team for state after finishing third at the eight-team sectional. Ashland topped the team standings at 134.55, followed Antigo (127.45), RHS (121.9), Mosinee (111.5), Medford (108.4), Chequamegon (92.15), Lakeland Union High School (73.875) and Washburn (59).
