GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hodags win regular-season finale over Antigo

RHS enters playoffs 13-9 overall

The Rhinelander High School girls basketball team entered the postseason on a winning note with a victory in its regular-season finale on the road against Great Northern Conference rival Antigo, 59-27.

RHS, which outscored the Red Robins 37-11 in the second half, was led by Kenedy Van Zile, who was the only player on both teams to end up scoring in double figures with 25 points.

The Hodags outshot Antigo from the field overall, 19-51 (37.3 percent) to 11-43 (25.6 percent), from 3-point range, 5-19 (26.3 percent) to 2-13 (15.4 percent), and from the free-throw line, 16-24 (66.7 percent) to 3-7 (42.9 percent).

RHS, which closed out the season 13-9 overall and 10-2 in the GNC for second place in the conference, opens WIAA Division 2 tournament play as the No. 5 seed in its regional and will host No. 12-seeded Waupaca at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner advances to Friday’s regional semifinal at No. 4-seeded Merrill.
