BOYS BASKETBALL: Hodags down Medford, clinch first in GNC

The Rhinelander High School varsity boys basketball team has assured itself of a first-place finish in the Great Northern Conference after Tuesday’s 60-46 home victory over Medford.

The Hodags, who led 33-22 at halftime, had three players end up scoring in double figures. Brad Comer had a team-high 19 points, followed by Owen White with 13 points and Reese Flores scoring 12 more.

RHS shot 23-47 (48.9 percent) from the field overall, 9-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range and 5-6 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Hodags, who remain undefeated in the GNC at 10-0 and improved their overall record to 18-2, can clinch the conference title outright with a win Friday at Antigo. RHS’s regular season finale is Feb. 22 at home against Mosinee.

Hodags: Junior Howard 5, Brad Comer 19, Bryce Schickert 2, Brad Quade 2, Reese Flores 12, Owen White 13, Brock Lieder 7. 3-pointers: Comer 3, White 3, Flores 2, Howard. Free throws: 5-6. Fouls: 14.
