GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hodags lead big early, down Eagles

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School varsity girls basketball team jumped out to a 26-point halftime lead Friday when the Hodags ended up winning their Great Northern Conference home game against Northland Pines, 70-51.

RHS had two players score in double figures led by Ally Seefeldt with a game-high 26 points and Kenedy Van Zile tallying 21 more points.

Though both teams shot fairly even percentage-wise from the field overall with the Hodags going 26-63 (41.3 percent), compared to 22-52 (42.3 percent) for the Eagles, RHS made seven 3-point shots in 19 attempts with Northland Pines going 0-6 behind the arc.

The Hodags improved their season record to 7-2 in the GNC and 10-9 overall going into Tuesday’s conference game at Tomahawk.

Hodags      41           29 – 70

Hodags: Ally Seefeldt 26, Kenedy Van Zile 21, Peyton Van Zile 6, Rebecca Lawrence 4, Marissa Martin 4, Ericka Jorgensen 3, Alayna Franson 2, Molly Wagler 2, Maddie Meyer 2. 3-pointers: Seefeldt 3, K. Van Zile 3, P. Van Zile. Free throws: 11-12. Fouls: 14.
