RHS 8-0 in GNC

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School varsity boys basketball team continued its winning ways in the Great Northern Conference on Friday when the Hodags blew open a nine-point halftime lead with a 79-56 home victory over Northland Pines.

RHS senior Owen White recorded a double-double with 35 points and 15 rebounds. No one else on the team registered in double figures with nine other players scoring points.

The Hodags shot 24-67 (35.8 percent) from the field overall, 8-31 (25.8 percent) from 3-point range and 23-28 (82.1 percent) from the free-throw line.

RHS improved its season record to 8-0 in the GNC and 15-1 overall going into Tuesday’s non-conference home game against Merrill. The Hodags’ next conference game is Thursday at Tomahawk.

Hodags: Junior Howard 7, Brad Comer 9, Bryce Schickert 4, Jared Haug 3, Peyton Erikson 3, Brad Quade 5, Reese Flores 7, Owen White 35, Brock Lieder 2, Sean Mathews 4. 3-pointers: White 5, Howard, Erikson, Flores. Free throws: 23-28. Fouls: 18.
