FOR THE STAR JOURNAL

Students from Rhinelander High School competed in a mock trial tournament at the Brown County Courthouse in Green Bay Jan. 27, taking home first place honors and an award for “Best Attorney.”  Fourteen teams competed in the tournament, including regional foes, Lakeland and D.C. Everest.

Tyler Fredrick was selected for All-Tournament honors as one of two “Best Attorneys,” in a field of more than 50 candidates.

Tyler Fredrick was one of two students who were named “Best Attorney.”

The tournament involved three rounds of power-paired competition.  RHS faced teams from Berlin, Appleton Xavier, and Appleton West, finishing 3-0 on the day.

“With only three varsity team members returning this year, we were pleasantly surprised by the team’s strong performance against quality competition,” said coach Kathy Vick-Martini.  “It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication.”  The team is also coached by attorney Ann Munninghoff Eshelman.

Next up for the RHS teams is the regional tournament at the Marathon County Courthouse in Wausau Feb. 10. Last year, RHS broke its own state record by winning 31 consecutive regional championships.
