STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School boys swimming team placed first in only three of the 11 events Tuesday when the Hodags lost their Great Northern Conference dual meet at Antigo, 83-72.

The meet went down the final event when RHS trailed by only three points, but wasn’t able to score in the 400-yard freestyle relay upon the team being disqualified. Had the Hodags won the race and Antigo finished second, RHS would have won the meet by a point.

The Hodags’ first-place finishes included: Russell Benoy, Thaddeus Heck, David King and Devon Gaber, 200 medley relay (2:04.94); Benoy, 50 freestyle (26.21); and Thaddeus Heck, 100 breaststroke (1:17.9).

RHS also recorded seven runner-up finishes that included: Martin Hoger, Thaddeus Heck, Joseph Heck and Gaber, 200 freestyle relay (1:52.37); King, 200 individual medley (2:34.08) and 100 butterfly (1:04.89); Thaddeus Heck, 200 freestyle (2:25.7); Benoy, 100 freestyle (59.39); Hoger, 100 backstroke (1:18.6) and Joseph Heck, 100 breaststroke (1:22.84).

The Hodags, whose conference dual meet record now stands at 3-5-1, next host a GNC dual meet Thursday against Lakeland Union High School.
