After having a conference dual meet at Antigo postponed a day earlier because of wintry weather, the Rhinelander High School boys swimming team competed Friday in the seven-team “Lightning Invite” hosted by Appleton North High School.

Points were awarded to the top-16 finishes with the points ranging from 20 for first place to a point for 16th in individuals events and the points doubled for the three relays. Appleton North/East had the top score of 448, followed by Ashwaubenon (328.5), Appleton West/Kimberly (325), Oshkosh North Lourdes (288), Oshkosh West (251), RHS (246) and Oregon (245.5).

The Hodags’ best showings included four third-place finishes with Devon Gaber, Martin Hoger, Joseph Heck and Russell Benoy in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.38); Benoy in the 100 freestyle (52.64) and 100 backstroke (1:02.17); and Thaddeus Heck in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.75).

RHS’s four fourth-place finishes included: Hoger, Benoy, David King and Thaddeus Heck, 200 medley relay (1:50.23); Joseph Heck, 200 individual medley (2:20.17) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.75); and King, 100 butterfly (58.34).
