NORDIC SKIING: RHS hosts Hodag Challenge

Hodags compete in JV division

The Rhinelander High School Nordic skiing teams hosted last weekend’s two-day Hodag Challenge at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom, where the Hodags competed in the junior varsity division.

In the two-race competition Saturday and Sunday, RHS’s best finish by the girls team was recorded by Jenna Younker, who placed 14th with a total time of 50 minutes, 12 seconds, after finishing in 24:16 in the “skate” race and 25:56 in the “classic” race. The Hodags’ top-three skiers overall also included Emma Hjelle placing 17th (51:42) and Gwyneth Lowry 19th (51:56).

In the boys competition, RHS was led by Zach Goodrich, who placed 15th with a total time of 39:55 after finishing in 19:01 in the “skate” race and 20:54 in the “classic” race. The overall top three for the Hodag boys also included Levi Smith placing 20th (42:34) and Nicholas St. Pierre finishing 23rd (43:18).

The Hodags’ Zach Goodrich (155) reaches the finish line Saturday while competing in the “skate” race at the Hodag Challenge.
