BOYS BASKETBALL: Hodags ground Eagles, 79-39

RHS improves to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in GNC

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

After jumping out to a 42-14 halftime lead Friday night, the Rhinelander High School varsity boys basketball team won its Great Northern Conference game at Northland Pines, 79-39.

In front, the Hodags’ Brock Lieder (23) finishes a drive to the basket while Junior Howard (1) looks on in Friday’s game at Northland Pines.

The Hodags had five players score in double figures. Owen White led RHS with 16 points, Brock Lieder added 13 points and Junior Howard, Brad Comer and Bryce Schickert scored 10 points apiece.

The Hodags shot 31-59 (52.5 percent) from the field overall, 6-19 (31.6 percent) from 3-point range and 11-16 (68.8 percent) from the free-throw line.

RHs improved its season record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the GNC going into Thursday’s non-conference home game against Wausau West.

Eagles          14           25 – 39

Hodags: Junior Howard 10, Brad Comer 10, Markus Johnson 3, Jared Haug 2, Brad Quade 5, Reese Flores 2, Owen White 16, Brock Lieder 13, Drake Martin 3, Sean Mathews 5. 3-pointers: Howard 2, Comer 2, Johnson, Lieder. Free throws: 11-16. Fouls: 13.
