HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Hodags win season opener over Crandon

The Rhinelander High School wrestling team opened the season Thursday with a 63-9 non-conference dual meet victory at home over Crandon.
The Hodags won six of the eight contested matches and also recorded forfeit victories in five matches with the match at 138 pounds being a double forfeit between the two teams.
RHS’s wrestlers who won their matches on pins included Tim Fox (106), Tyler Olson (132), Walker Hartman (145) and Alec Kurtz (195). Jacob DeMeyer (160) won on an 18-2 technical fall 4:13 into his match, while Eric Grulke (152) recorded a 13-3 major decision.
The closest match of the evening came at 170 pounds with Crandon’s Ty Flannery winning a 1-0 decision over the Hodags’ Scott Fox. Crandon’s other match victory came at 182 pounds with John Doane pinning RHS’s Ben Sinclair.
Up next for the Hodags is an invitational Saturday at Pulaski.
