Cinema delivers a happy Thanksgiving to families in need
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Rouman Amusement Company has shown its commitment to supporting families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.
Employees, family and friends of Rouman Cinema delivered Thanksgiving meal baskets to 69 families in Rhinelander and Oneida County Nov. 19.
George Rouman said the program was started in Rhinelander in 1995 to allow movie theater employees, who are often teens, to experience the joy of helping others in a time of need.
“Just because we live in a smaller community, many younger people take it for granted that everyone is fortunate enough to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner,” Rouman said.
This year marked the 5,000th meal to be purchased and delivered since 1995.
“Contrary to what some people may think, poverty doesn’t only exist in large urban areas like Milwaukee or Chicago,” Rouman added. “By having these students personally deliver the meals, they have an opportunity to witness the joy and appreciation as it appears on the faces of the recipients. This experience can have a profoundly positive affect on a young person’s life.”
The Rouman Amusement Company, Inc is a family owned movie theater circuit which owns and operates ten screens in two locations in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and is celebrating 96 years of business in 2017.
