Conversation involved ‘previously resolved’ issue

BY EILEEN PERSIKE
EDITOR

Oneida County Sheriff’s officers were dispatched to all Rhinelander schools and Sugar Camp Elementary Wednesday morning following a 911 call from a local business reporting an overheard conversation.

According to a joint press release issued by the sheriff’s office and School District of Rhinelander, the conversation was related to an individual who was going to cause issues at Crescent Elementary, located in the town of Crescent.

Crescent was put on administrative lockdown until early afternoon, which, according to chief deputy Dan Hess, means no one was allowed in the building.  Officers were sent to the other schools as a precaution, Hess said.

The press release stated the overheard conversation was related to a domestic child custody issue that had previously been resolved. Detectives have spoken with all parties involved and continue their investigation.

Hess said law enforcement and the school district take issues like this seriously and work together to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
