Obituary: Lucille Bixby
Lucille Joyce Bixby, age 94, of Rhinelander, died Sept. 10, 2017, at the Friendly Village. She was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Bundy to Daniel and Hedwig (Edwardson) Dietz. Lucille attended schools and spent her youth in Bundy. She married Jay Bixby Nov. 15, 1941. Jay preceded her in death on March 25, 2006, after the Lord had blessed them with almost 65 years of marriage.
After their marriage they moved to Chicago for a couple years before returning to Rhinelander where Lucille has lived since. She had worked for the school district in the kitchen for a few years but mainly took care of her family.
Lucille was a longtime member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling with Jay, especially the yearly winter trip to Texas. They had visited 45 out of the 50 states. Lucille also loved her sheltie dogs and knitting. She enjoyed making mittens for the “Mitten Tree” each year.
Lucille is survived by her daughters, Rae Ann (Thomas) Cheslock and Lana (Steve) Leighton; her sons, David and Daniel Bixby, all of Rhinelander; three grandchildren, Shane Leighton, Michael and Jay Cheslock; one great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews. In addition to Jay, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margaret Nordquist and brother, Conrad Dietz.
Funeral services for Lucille will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. (Carlson Funeral Home)
