GIRLS SWIMMING: RHS tops six-team Hodag Relays

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School girls swimming team won five of the 10 relay events and added four runner-up finishes to place first out of six teams at Saturday’s Hodag Relays in the Heck Family Community Pool.

The Hodags recorded the top score of 116 points, followed by Wausau West (80), Lakeland Union High School (68), Marshfield (58), Black River Falls (54) and Antigo (48). Points were awarded through six places in each relay ranging from 14 points for first to two points for sixth with each team’s top relay able to score.

Four of RHS’s first-place finishes were also meet records with Grace Heck, Marisa McGuire, Maddie Quinn and Makenna Winnicki in the 400-yard medley relay (4 minutes, 36.64 seconds); Heck, McGuire, Taylor Macak and Jenna Hawley in the 200 freestyle relay (1:48.93); Winnicki, Lisa Kennedy, Emily McFarland and Jaylen Janssen in the 500 decrescendo relay (5:21.13); and Kennedy, Quinn and Winnicki in the 3×100 backstroke relay (3:17.84).

The Hodags’ other first-place finish was recorded by Kennedy, Hawley, Macak and Heck in the 200 medley relay (2:01.42).

RHS’s second-place finishes included McFarland, Janssen, Jaida Salaam and Rachel Uhlarik in the 800 freestyle relay (10:53.79); Quinn, McFarland and Macak in the 3×100 butterfly relay (3:49.38); McGuire, Hawley and Ella Schiek in the 3×100 breaststroke relay (4:06.21); and Carly Seidl, Janssen, Uhlarik and Schiek in the 400 freestyle relay (4:28.45).

The Hodags’ next meet is a Great Northern Conference dual at home against Ladysmith/Bruce/Flambeau.
