The Three Lakes Shootout Radar Run is an annual fundraising event that brings racing boats from as far away as Florida, Texas, Canada and New York to race against a radar gun.

Trophies are won in each of 12 classes, and two “Top Gun” trophies are awarded for fastest times down the 1,000-foot marked course on Big Stone Lake. Top speed to date from a standing start in 1,000 feet was 162 MPH.

The event is held annually the weekend before the Fourth of July and attracts nearly 100 racing boats.

This year, the Three Lakes Shootout donated $2,000 to the Rhinelander Post #724 of AmVets, the oldest national veterans organization; it was chartered by President Truman in 1947.

The funds raised by AmVets are used to assist veterans and other veterans organizations. Wisconsin alone has 50 active AmVets Posts.
