Block party to celebrate construction completion

STAR JOURNAL REPORT
Think back one year ago, and picture the streets of downtown Rhinelander. It’s likely that memory includes streets with large holes and big construction equipment, no pavement, no parking or sidewalks. Now that the work is complete, downtown businesses are planning a block party celebration for Sept. 9, from noon – 8 p.m.

Mayor Dick Johns will issue a proclamation, and along with the contractors who performed the work, will open the festivities at 2 p.m.

Visit Restaurant Row on Brown Street from noon – 6 p.m., where there will be outdoor seating for community dining. Local restaurants will be offering their specialties. Sidewalk sales also begin at noon. Other events include a sidewalk chalk contest, relay races, hula hoop contest, bouncy house and face painting, the Amazing Zachman Magician and free cake and ice cream near CT’s Deli.

Live music will feature Ron Harrison from 2 – 5 p.m. and The Influence from 5 – 8 p.m. For more information, visit downtownrhinelander.com/projectsandevents.
