STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School girls tennis team dropped only three games in four contested matches and won by default in the other three matches Thursday when the Hodags swept their Great Northern Conference home dual meet against Phillips, 7-0.

“We are where we want to be at this point in the conference season,” said RHS head coach Bob Heideman. “We kept our focus pretty much from start to finish.”

In the two contested singles matches, the Hodags’ Belinda Weddle defeated Maria Surman in No.  singles, 6-0,6-0, and Alex Oestreich won in No. 2 singles over Gabrielle Eklund, 6-1, 6-0.

“Belinda hit with a little more top spin and Alex got some of her confidence back in her serve,” Heideman said.

RHS’s No. 1 doubles pair of Livi Roberts and Haley Seefeldt defeated Katie Willers and Amanda Kadlecek, 6-1, 6-1, while Alexis Prychalla and Madi Losch won in No. 2 doubles over Trinity Pesko and Katie Chapman, 6-0. 6-0.

“Our doubles teams hit spots better on their volleys,” Heideman said.

The Hodags improved their season record to 4-0 in the GNC and 9-3 overall going into Tuesday’s conference meet at Lakeland Union High School.
