Boisterous competition at annual worm race

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

Rain showers forced the 29th annual Rhinelander District Library Worm Race indoors Wednesday, but it didn’t dampen the spirit of competition.

Worms were readied for each race, as shown in this photo; cheering from spectators of all ages filled the lower-level children’s department until the finalists were named.

In the end, Squirmy, coached by Xander and Ed Pomroy, wiggled his way out of the circle before the others, sending the winners home with a trophy. Dynamite, coached by Cooper and Jeeter VanderGalien was the runner up, followed by Merlin and Melanie Stauffer’s worm, Chocolate Dash. Sixty teams of two participated in the event, one of the library’s most popular activities.
