STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School boys swimming team placed first in five of the 11 events Tuesday when the Hodags lost their Great Northern Conference dual meet at Shawano, 102-68.

RHS had two swimmers win two events each. Nolan Francis placed first in both the 100-yard butterfly (59.83 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:00.58), while Russell Benoy topped the 100 freestyle (56.49) and 200 freestyle (2:07.52).

The Hodags’ other first-place finish came from Martin Hoger in the 500 freestyle (6:07.65).

RHS placed second to Shawano in all three relays. Thaddeus Heck recorded the Hodags’ only individual runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.2) and also placed third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.61). Hoger added a third-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:32.93).

RHS, which is now 0-4 for the season in GNC dual meets, hosts its final meet before the new year Thursday against Medford.
