Kiah Francis back in lineup

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School girls swimming team had Kiah Francis back in the lineup Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as the Hodags lost their road dual meet to Ladysmith/Flambeau/Bruce, 91-79.

Francis, who placed runner-up last year at state in two events and had been missing from recent meets while on recruiting trips, placed first in both the 100-yard freestyle (54.05 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.85) and was joined by Maddie Quinn, Grace Heck and Marisa McGuire to win the 200 medley relay (1:59.15) and McGuire, Heck and Taylor Macak to top the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.05).

Heck recorded RHS’s only other first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:07) and also came in second in the 50 freestyle (26.98). Other runner-up finishes for the Hodags included Macak in the 500 freestyle (6:08.46), Quinn in the 100 backstroke (1:10.55) and Taylor Hollands, Carly Seidl, Macak and Quinn in the 400 freestyle relay (4:21.99).

The Hodags’ five third-place finishes came from Macak in the 200 freestyle (2:18.25), McGuire in the 200 individual medley (2:38.33), Hollands in the 500 freestyle (6:15.03), Alexandria Gallegos in the 100 backstroke (1:13.22) and Jenna Hawley, Shelby Kuehn, Seidl and Hollands in the 200 freestyle (1:57.26).
