American Cancer Society plans unique fundraiser for dogs, owners
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The fight against cancer has gone to the dogs with the American Cancer Society’s Bark for Life. The Northwoods area event takes place Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Oneida County 4-H Dog Park at the Rhinelander Oneida County Airport. This is a non-competitive event and will include an opening ceremony at 9 a.m., a walk remember and honor all two and four-legged friends and family who fought or died from cancer, blessing of the animals, professional pet portraits, pet pedicures and at 10 a.m. Pawzitive Outdoor Games will demonstrate agility and speed events. A drawing for prizes donated by area restaurants, McNaughton Correctional Facility, the Green Bay Packers and others will also be held.
Bark for Life adds a twist to the Society’s traditional Relay for Life event, serving as a fundraising activity to honor the care-giving qualities of canine companions while supporting the mission of the American Cancer Society. Last year the regional Northwoods event was 4th in the nation for raising over $11,800 for the cause.
Sponsors of Bark for Life include Northern Paws Animal Hospital, Ministry Health Care, TLC Dog Training by Carol Lofquist, Ripco Credit Union, Oldenburg Group and more. Registration forms are available at Pawz ‘N Clawz pet food store in Rhinelander as well as at other area veterinary offices and retailers. For online registration, visit www.relayforlife.org/barknorthwoodswi or call 715-891-2061.
