Downtown Business UP CLOSE

Saying there is “nothing we won’t do” to get customers what they want when they want it, Best Embroideries co-owner Diane Pilat says their customer service is second to none. Located in the heart of the downtown Rhinelander infrastructure upgrade on Davenport Street, business has been tough this summer, according to Pilat, and that’s why it’s important to keep the customer in mind.
“If we don’t have a size or color you want, just ask,” she said. “One customer was just in here and asked if I could make a t-shirt for him, and he’d be back in 20 minutes. He got the shirt and I got the sale, even though the shirt wasn’t on the rack.”
Additionally, Diane will work with groups or individuals to create custom logos, design shirts, mugs, key chains and the like, right down to a select font, all with no set-up or clean-up fees, and no minimum order.
Things have gotten busier for the store since the Hodag announced his run for the presidency. Best Embroideries is the exclusive maker of the “Hodag for President” tee shirts, which are white with the colored logo on the front. Sizes 2T to adult men’s extra large are $5 each; 2x and 3x sizes are $7 and $9.
The Hodag candidacy was an unexpected and welcome boost for the business Diane runs with her husband, Andy Pilat. Diane has also been a driving force behind a couple of downtown promotions involving many of the business owners. She, Diane Dodge and Amy Dodge created the downtown scavenger hunt. Next up is the beach party, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. downtown, with live music, activities for kids and special savings promotions. Using the theme, “Downtown Rhinelander’s Future’s so Bright,” they are even giving away shades at a sunglass cabana which will be located at Davenport and Brown streets. What happens at the beach party will be a culmination of a grass roots (dirt roots?) effort involving several of the downtown businesses.
“I really want to bring the downtown together,” Pilat said. “Hopefully it will get bigger and better. I would like to see more of a downtown association where all of the businesses are involved, where we have open communication and monthly meetings.”
Diane said she and Andy are optimistic and are looking forward to opening up the downtown and “creating a really nice fun atmosphere” for customers and tourists and holding special events to draw people downtown.
