Streets surrounding the Antigo Hotel remain blocked off following an incident that occurred near there this morning.

According to Antigo Chief of Police, Eric Roller, an officer made a traffic stop shortly before 6:30 this morning. During the routine stop, the driver fired shots at the officer and left the scene.  A high speed chase ensued on Hwy. 64 west into Lincoln County. Lincoln County authorities reportedly assisted in bringing  the vehicle to a stop in the township of Pine River.

An Antigo Police Department press release indicated Special Response Teams from the agencies involved were called to the scene to “help prevent or decrease any imminent danger in the area.”

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect remained armed during an hour stand off and was eventually shot and killed by law enforcement.

No further details have been released, other than Antigo PD stating that the Division of Criminal Investigation will be conducting an investigation. There is reportedly no threat to the area or the surrounding communities.
