STAR JOURNAL REPORT

A 48-year-old Hazelhurst man was injured July 18 in Lincoln County following an ATV accident in the town of Birch.

According to a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the crash along Cottrell Avenue was reported at 4:30 p.m. after the driver of the machine, identified as Terry Van Rolefson Jr., went off the road and rolled the machine.

Rolefson, who according to the incident report was not wearing a helmet and sustained a gash to his head and nose, was brought to the Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill before being flown by the Spirit Helicopter to Ministry St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, where he was listed to good condition.

The incident report further states Rolefson walked from the accident scene to his brother’s house. Rolefson had been eastbound on Cottrell Avenue, about a quarter of a mile west of Schooley Road when he crossed the centerline, hit the ditch and rolled over. Two bloody shoes belonging to Rolefson were also found at the accident scene.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Fischer said the results of a blood test are being waited on to determine if any citations should be issued.
