STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander Rebels did all their scoring in the first three innings Friday night when they plated six runs in the top of the third en route to winning their Legion baseball game at Mosinee, 8-3.

The Rebels scored first with two runs in the second inning when Tyler Blomdahl led off with a double and scored on a single by Nick Spencer, who also scored on a double by Brandon Hess.

Rhinelander jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the third, which featured an RBI double by Brad Comer, his first of three hits for the game, RBI singles from Blomdahl, Hess and Tait Spencer, and another single by Brad Quade.

Mosinee scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning when Rebels starting pitcher Jacob DeMeyer walked the first three batters to load the bases and then gave up a 2-RBI single to Brett Cook and an RBI single to Kelvin Lassa.

DeMeyer pitched 5 2/3 innings and recorded the victory, allowing three earned runs on five hits with seven walks while striking out three. Comer relieved DeMeyer for the final 1 1/3 innings without giving up a run on a hit while striking out one.

Bryce Graveen pitched all seven innings for Mosinee in picking up the loss, allowing three earned runs out of the eight scored on 10 hits with a walk while striking out five.

The win improved the Rebels’ overall season record to 12-5 going in their final two regular-season games, a make-up home doubleheader against Eagle River starting at 5 p.m. Monday. Rhinelander opens its four-team, double-elimination AA Regional Tournament on Wednesday in Merrill with the first game at 5 p.m. against Antigo.
