2016 Northwoods Relay for Life

Community comes together to honor, remember and fight
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Relay for Life United Up North was held at Hodag Park Saturday. Organized by the American Cancer Society, it’s one of the largest fundraising events in the world. People gathered to honor cancer survivors and those who are currently battling cancer and remember and honor loved ones lost.
The opening ceremony in the the afternoon brought everyone together for a kickoff that celebrated the lives of those who have battled cancer and reminded everyone that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority. Cancer survivors walked the first lap, followed by the Caregivers Lap and at dusk, the luminaria ceremony where candles in the individual tribute bags were lit and names read.
According to the event website, more than $26,500 was raised. Photos contributed by Brevin Persike.
