LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: Rhinelander 12U All-Stars runner-up in district tourney

Rhinelander’s 12U Little League All-Stars have finished runner-up in the District 5 Tournament after winning three of four games this week in Wausau.
Rhinelander, which needed to keep winning to remain alive in the double-elimination tournament, pounded out 14 hits Monday to defeat, Merrill, 14-4.
Tim Fox batted 2-2, while Sam Schneider went 3-4 with a home run and Jackson Smith added a double with 3 RBI for Rhinelander.
The team’s top pitching performances came from Fox with two scoreless innings and Jacob Schoppe with one scoreless inning.
RHINELANDER 7, ANTIGO 6
Devyn Orth drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth Tuesday to lift Rhinelander to a 7-6 victory over Antigo.
Rhinelander was able to load the bases leading up to Orth driving in the tying and winning runs with a line drive to left field when Jake Loesch, Isaac Bixby and Fox all bunted their way on base.
Orth went 3-4 at the plate, Bixby and Fox each ended up batting 2-4, while Loesch, Schoppe and Joe Schneider all were 2-2 as the Rhinelander players with multiple hits. Mason Tuckwab recorded his first career home run with Mason Davis also tallying a hit.
RHINELANDER 19, WAUSAU AMERICAN 3
Rhinelander scored 13 runs in the first two innings Wednesday en route to a 19-3 victory over the Wausau American.
Rhinelander’s six-run first inning included back-to-back home runs from Sam Schneider and Mason Davis. Sam Schneider ended up with two home runs. Joe Schneider tallied the most hits on the team with three, two doubles and a single.
WAUSAU NATIONALS 13, RHINELANDER 5
Rhinelander was knocked out of the tournament Thursday in a 13-5 loss to the Wausau Nationals, which had also defeated Rhinelander in the tournament’s opening round.
Orth led Rhinelander at the plate batting 2-3 with a home run and a single. Ian Miller went 1-1 with a single.
Rhinelander ended the tournament 4-2 as the runner-up, while the Wausau Nationals finished undefeated and advanced to the state tournament.
