LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: Rhinelander 12U All-Stars open tourney 1-1

Team advances to face Merrill

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander Little League 12U All-Stars opened tournament play at Hodag Park by splitting their two games.

Rhinelander lost the first game Tuesday to the Wausau Nationals, 4-2.

Rhinelander’s leading hitters included: Devyn Orth, 2- 3 with a double and a single; Joe Schneider, 2- 3 with a single and a double with an RBI; and Sam Schneider, 1- 1 with an RBI.

Isaac Bixby pitched six innings for Rhinelander and gave up one run.

RHINELANDER 4, NORTHWOODS 1

Rhinelander stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament Wednesday by winning a losers’ bracket game over Northwoods, 4-1.

The same two players once again got two hits for Rhinelander with Devyn Orth batting 2- 3 with two singles and an RBI, while Joe Schneider also went 2- 3 with two singles. Cole Lehman was 1-1 with 2 RBI, Tim Fox went 1- 3 with a double and an RBI and Jacob Schoppe was 1-1.

Jackson Smith pitched six innings and gave up a run for Rhinelander.

Rhinelander’s 12U All-Stars will be back in action at 7 p.m. Monday at Doepke Park in Wausau against Merrill. Rhinelander’s 10U All-Stars open tournament play at 6 p.m. Monday at Hodag Park against Wausau American.
