Rhinelander athletes compete at State Special Olympics

Six athletes from the School District of Rhinelander competed at the State Special Olympics summer games held June 9-11 at Stevens Point. The SDR athletes placed first or second in all of their events. They also heard an inspiring message at the opening ceremonies from Tim Shriver, Chairman of Special Olympics.
Senior Keegan Marko brought home a silver medal for placing second in the shot put. Another senior, Krystal Kriesel, brought home the gold for placing first in the softball throw. Junior James Michniak took first place and won the gold medal in the 100-meter run. Freshman Miguel Gonzalez also brought home a gold medal for his softball throw. Paige Appling and Maria Dornfeld were silver medalists in the softball throw.
