LEGION BASEBALL: Rebels shut out at home by Mosinee, 5-0
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Rhinelander Rebels Legion baseball team stayed close with Mosinee through five innings Monday night before giving up four runs in the top of sixth en route to being shut out, 5-0, at Stafford Field.
The Rebels could only muster four hits over seven innings off Mosinee’s winning pitcher, Bryce Graveen, who also walked three and struck out 11. Three of those hits were singles from leadoff batter Easton Senoraske. Brad Comer led off the sixth inning with a double for Rhinelander’s only other hit.
Comer started on the mound for the Rebels and worked six innings in recording the loss, allowing two earned runs out of the five scored on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Nick Spencer pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief and gave up a hit and walk while striking out a batter.
Mosinee scored its first run in the top of the fourth when Graveen led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, reached third on a single from Ben Vandehey and then headed home on a balk.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth when Mosinee’s first four batters all reached base and scored. Dom Collelo singled to drive in the inning’s first run, Kalvin Lassa added a 2-RBI single and Ty Cook hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give Mosinee a five-run lead.
The Rebels, who lost their second game in a row and saw their overall season record drop to 6-3, return to action Wednesday with a road game against Lakeland.
