STAR JOURNAL REPORT

An 82-year-old Boone, Iowa, man died following a drowning incident reported late Sunday afternoon near the Bradley Dam in the town of Bradley.

According to a media release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Nokomis First Responders, Tomahawk EMS and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene when a 911 call was received at around 5:02 p.m. Sunday involving Cecil E. Vogts being pulled out of the water with CPR in progress.

The media release further states that Vogts was fishing along the shoreline on Nokomis Drive when he slipped into the water, and a friend who was on the scene was unable to reach Vogts using a fishing net because of the current pulling him away from shore.

The friend then flagged down a passing vehicle, according to the release, and the individuals from the vehicle swam out into the water and were able to retrieve Vogts and bring him back to shore.

The life-saving measures performed were unsuccessful for Vogts, who was not wearing a life jacket and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, while the circumstances surrounding the drowning do not appear suspicious, according to the release.
