STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander Rebels Legion baseball team led by four runs after five innings Wednesday before holding on for a 5-4 road victory over Chequamegon.

The Rebels’ Jacob DeMeyer pitched the first six innings and recorded the victory, allowing all four runs, three earned, on four hits with five walks while striking out five. Kurt Zuiker took the mound for the seventh inning when he didn’t give up a run after walking three batters and picked up a save.

Mud Cats starting pitcher Justin Herbst went four innings and took the loss, allowing two earned runs out of the four scored on six hits with two walks while striking out three. Taylor Brayton relieved Herbst and gave up an unearned run on no hits with a walk while striking out three.

Zuiker tallied two of Rhinelander’s six hits with a pair of singles and 2 RBI. Brad Comer doubled and drove in a run. Easton Senoraske and Nick Spencer each singled, while Cole Spaulding bunted his way on base.

Half of Chequamegon’s hits came from Ryan Giannoni with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Herbst singled and drove in a run with Ben Godleske also picking up a single. All three had a hit in the sixth inning when the Mud Cats scored three runs.

In the field, Chequamegon committed five errors, compared to two for Rhinelander.

The win improved the Rebels’ overall season record to 6-1 going into Friday’s road game against RSW.

Rhinelander will be back at home Monday night to host Mosinee.
