RHS ends season 15-11

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School baseball team saw its season come to an end Thursday when the No. 8-seeded Hodags were shut out in their WIAA Division 1 Regional final at Joannes Park in Green Bay by the top-seeded Green Bay Preble Hornets, 4-0.

Preble tallied two runs in the bottom of the second to break the scoreless tie when Jarrett Scheelk and Jayden Adrians both singled and scored. Adrians, who was walked home by RHS starting pitcher Brandon Reinthaler with two outs, drove in Scheelk.

The Hornets added a run in the fourth inning after Griffin Summers singled and scored on a two-out double by Connor Lemmens off Hodags reliever Kurt Zuiker. Summers also scored Preble’s final run in the bottom of the sixth when he singled and came home on a sacrifice fly by Lemmens.

The closest RHS came to scoring was in the second inning when Brad Comer led off with a single and ended up being stranded on third with the bases loaded. The Hodags, whose only other hit came in the top of the fifth on a leadoff single by Easton Senoraske, then weren’t able to get past first base in the game’s final five innings.

Lemmens picked up the complete-game shutout victory pitching all seven innings for the Hornets, allowing only two hits with three walks and a hit batter while striking out seven.

Reinthaler pitched the first three innings and recorded the loss for RHS, giving up two earned runs on two hits with five walks and two hit batters while striking out one. Zuiker worked the final three innings and also allowed two earned runs on four hits with a walk while striking out three.

The loss ended the Hodags’ season at 15-11 overall.
