Hodag baseball team chops down Tomahawk, 6-1

The Rhinelander High School baseball team broke open a two-run lead by scoring three times in the fifth inning en route to Monday’s 6-1 Great Northern Conference home victory over Tomahawk.
The Hodags also tallied three of their six hits in bottom of the fifth when Jacob DeMeyer singled and scored and Brandon Reinthaler and Brad Comer both doubled with an RBI and scored. DeMeyer, who ended up scoring three of RHS’s six runs, added a third-inning double for his two hits.
Brad Quade and Brandon Hess each tallied a single for the Hodags.
The Hatchets scored their only run in the top of the first on a double by Brandon Vecchio, who also singled. Five other Tomahawk players recorded a single.
DeMeyer pitched the first six innings to record the victory, allowing an unearned run on four hits with two walks while striking out eight. Kurt Zuiker closed out the top of the seventh when he gave up three hits and struck out two.
Kaleb Kaminski pitched all six innings for Tomahawk in a losing effort, allowing three earned runs out of the six scored on six hits with three walks and a hit batter while striking out two.
RHS improved its season record to 7-4 in the GNC and 13-9 overall going into Tuesday’s conference game at home against Northland Pines.
