STAR JOURNAL REPORT

Nicolet College Information Technology students Jacob Oestreich and Joseph Haydon recently returned with top 10 honors after competing in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Boston, Mass.

Oestreich, left, of Rhinelander, and Haydon, Tomahawk, teamed up to earn sixth place in the Website Design Competition. The two were tasked with creating a public service announcement website. They chose the dangers of drug use as their topic.

“Jacob and Joe went up against some of the best college student website designers in the country and turned in a very impressive performance,” said Helen Fries, BPA advisor at Nicolet. “They did an outstanding job and should be commended for all of the hard work they put into preparing for the competition.”

Haydon also competed in PC servicing and troubleshooting, taking 15th place.

Both students qualified for the BPA National Leadership Conference by turning in top performances in the state competition earlier this spring.

Approximately 6,000 students, advisors and guests from throughout the United States participated in the conference. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and tours of local sights and attractions.

Business Professionals of America is the leading career technical organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.
