STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School baseball team could only muster one run Monday when the Hodags lost a non-conference game at home to Merrill, 7-1

RHS trailed 3-0 before they scored their only run in the bottom of the third, in which Easton Senoraske singled, advanced to second when Jacob DeMeyer was hit by a pitch, reached third when Brandon Reinthaler walked and then made it home on a sacrifice fly by Brad Comer.

The Hodags tallied only two more hits for the game when Comer singled in the fifth inning and DeMeyer led off the bottom of the seventh with a single.

The Blue Jays pounded out 10 hits, which included three doubles and a triple, with Jared Schmeltzer and Trevor Asmundson tallying two hits apiece.

Brandon Hess pitched the first four innings for RHS and recorded the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with five walks while striking out one. Kurt Zuiker relieved Hess and worked two innings, giving up two earned runs on two hits with three walks. Reinthaler then retired all three batters he faced in the seventh inning when he recorded two strikeouts.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kyle Juhlke worked 4 1/3 innings and picked up the victory, allowing an earned run on two hits with seven walks and a hit batter while striking out one. Relief pitcher Trey Seubert closed out the final 2 2/3 innings without giving up a run on a hit with a walk while striking out a batter.

The Hodags’ season record now stands at 6-3 in the Great Northern Conference and 11-7 overall going into Thursday’s home conference game against Antigo.
